“What is a Naturopath?” is a very common question, that I often get asked with keen curiosity when meeting people for the first time. Either that, or “can I pick you brain” questions about x,y and z!…
I love that there seems to be a genuine interest in my field of work and for the most part people really do want to know more and how can I help them?…Even after more than 11 years as a qualified Naturopath, I still come across people that have never met a Naturopath or have never heard of Naturopathy before!…and I’m always more than happy to fill them in.
“The overall aim as a Naturopath is to support the individuals body to heal itself.”
Naturopathic Principles
As a Naturopath, I practise by these 6 fundamental principles:
The Healing Power of Nature
Trust in the body’s inherent or innate wisdom to heal itself.
Identify and Treat the Cause
Look beyond the symptoms to the underlying cause.
First Do No Harm
Use the most natural, least invasive and least toxic therapies.
Doctor as Teacher
Educate Patients in the steps to achieving and maintaining health.
Treat the Whole Person
View the body as an integrated whole in all it’s physical and spiritual dimensions; body, mind and soul.
Prevention
Focus on overall health, wellness and diseases prevention. Prevention is always better than cure.
A Naturopath is a Natural Healthcare Practitioner, that practises and lives by these fundamental principles. Naturopathic Medicine, uses various modalities with a holistic integrated approach to facilitate healing and treating the underlying causes of dis-ease.
